Great Lakes Division JN Qualifier - 5 km and 10 km
10 a.m. at the Tech Trails

Great Lakes skiers hoping to qualify for the Junior Nationals will ski either 5 km or 10 km, depending on your age category. Interval starts will begin at 10 a.m. at the stadium area. Registration and bib pick-up will open at 8 a.m. and close at 8:30 a.m. at the warming hut at the Tech Trails. Times are subject to change.

10:10 J2 Girls and High School Girls
10:30 J1/OJ Boys
11:00 J1/OJ Girls

High School 5km - for those not interested in the JN qualifier, there is also a 5km high school race for both boys and girls.

Copper Loppet - 15 km and 30 km
High Noon at the Tech Trails

The Copper Loppet starts at the Tech Trails stadium area, will provide skiers with a tour of the entire Tech trail system, including the lower trails and Nara trails (which opened in 2008-09). Skiers can choose between the 15 km and 30 km races. Registration and bib pick-up will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 a.m. at the warming hut at the Tech Trails.

Low Pressure Loppet (Snow Bike Race) - 15 km
2:30 p.m. at the Tech Trails

Grab your favorite large-tire, low-pressure mountain bike and get ready for a workout! We'll race around the same 15 km loop that the skiers use. This will be the only time you can ride the winter trails, so make your plans today!

Luscious Loppet - Dinner sponsored by the Library Restaurant
5-7 p.m. at Finlandia University's Jutila Center in Hancock

A delicious buffet dinner served by the area's most popular eatery, the Library Restaurant. The Jutila Center is the renovated former hospital building in Hancock.

Great Lakes Division JN Qualifier - 5 km and 10 km
10 a.m. at the Chassell Classic Trails

Great Lakes skiers hoping to qualify for the Junior Nationals will ski either 5 km or 10 km, depending on your age category. Interval starts will begin at 10 a.m. at the trailhead for the Chassell Classic trails. Registration and bib pick-up will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 9:30 a.m. at the Chassell Heritage Center.

Copper Island Classic - 2 km, 5 km and 10km
12:50 p.m. at the Chassell Classic Trails

Join us for this 42nd Annual Copper Island Classic at the intimate and well-groomed Chassell Ski Trails. Events include 5-km and 10-km fun races, where you guess your finish time; and 5-km and 10-km timed races. There is also a 2-km race for junior skiers. Registration and bib pick-up will open at 10:30 a.m. and close at noon at the Chassell Heritage Center.

  • 10-km race for skiers 16 and older
  • 5-km race for skiers 14 and older
  • 2-km race for skiers 13 and under
  • 5-km and 10-km fun races--winners are skiers who most closely estimate their finish time. Skiers estimate their course time on the registration form, then leave their watches with a trusted friend. Skiers of any age or skill level can enter.

The Keweenaw Nordic Festival promotes Nordic skiing in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula and supports the Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Team, local members of the Great Lakes Division JO Team, and the Chassell Classic Trails.
